Dr. Oviedo: Importance of data analytics in the poultry industry

During the World’s Poultry Congress 2022, aviNews International interviewed Dr. Edgar Oviedo-Rondon to discuss the Importance of data analytics in the poultry industry and new trends. 

Dr. Oviedo is the Technical Director of our magazine, a Professor at the Prestage Department of Poultry Science at North Carolina State University, and a poultry consultant in different countries. He has more than 100 scientific publications.

What is the so-called Internet of Animals?

The Internet of Animals (IoA) is a series of technologies that we have now and allow the usage of electronic sensors and automatically collect data produced by the animals directly. So, the sensors can measure the responses of the environment and even behaviors and can transmit the information directly to computers that can automatically give responses or give us alerts of something happening.

It is used with the Internet of Things (IoT), but now when we talk about animals producing the information, we called it the “Internet of Animals.”

What is the current technology to monitor the different poultry facilities?
We have had for a few years different electronic sensors in poultry houses  that can measure parameters like:
