Lohmann Layers India, a newly established Indian subsidiary of Germany-based EW Group, has announced plans to invest around USD 22 million in India’s poultry sector over the next three years, reported Poultry Ki Khabar.

The Group has acquired JK Breeders through its subsidiary International Layer Distribution (ILD). While financial details were not disclosed, the acquisition signals the company’s formal move into direct operations in India.

Antonio Paraguassu, Managing Director for Asia and Australia at ILD, emphasized India’s importance as one of the fastest-growing poultry markets worldwide. He noted that Lohmann Layers India reflects the company’s long-term commitment to supporting Indian farmers.

Transition from franchise to direct operations

Surendra K Jangid, Managing Director of Lohmann Layers India, explained that the company had partnered with JK Breeders under a franchise model for 15 years. With the acquisition complete, Lohmann Layers India will now operate directly in the market. He confirmed that USD 22 million will be invested over the next three years.

The company will manage the commercial distribution of day-old chicks across the country. Plans include developing breeding capacity for approximately 400,000 layer parent birds, enabling the annual distribution of around 30 million day-old chicks.

It also intends to establish modern hatcheries and incubation centers in multiple states. These facilities will focus on advanced breeding technology and modern infrastructure to improve efficiency and quality.

The company aims to expand its market share to 20% in the layer chick replacement segment.
