The Redox Potential (ORP) is an effective measure of measuring the oxidation-reduction chemical energy by means of an electrode, converting it into electrical energy. It is expressed in milli volts – mV. Disinfected drinking water is the most critical element in allowing birds to reach their full potential. Unfortunately, the lack of time for a complete day-to-day or for long-established customs means that many times the water that birds drink is not sufficiently sanitized. The measurement of drinking water disinfection has evolved. From reactions with a few drops of reagent, to measurements with colorimetric test strips or measurements of chemical energies.

The Redox Potential (ORP) is an effective way of measuring the oxidation-reduction chemical energy by means of an electrode, converting it into electrical energy. It is actually a measure of the activity of the electron compared to the activity of the reference electrode, which always keeps the potential constant. Temperature compensation is not necessary in the measurement of the Redox potential.

The redox potential is positive when oxidation occurs and negative when reduction occurs

Normally, redox reactions are accompanied by changes in pH in the medium. For example, this occurs in the oxidation and reduction processes of water: 2OH As can be seen, the oxidation of water acidifies the medium (H+ ions are produced), while its reduction alkalinizes it (OH- ions are generated). It could be said that the value is analogous to pH, since it measures the activity of protons and the redox potential measures that of electrons.
