The Philippines is deepening agricultural ties with Türkiye, with poultry trade and Halal-certified feed production emerging as key areas of collaboration.
A recent meeting between the Department of Agriculture and the Turkish Embassy focused on food security and poultry sector development.
Officials highlighted the Philippines’ strong biosecurity and regulatory systems, positioning the country as a credible, science-based poultry trade partner.
Halal feed and poultry standards
The Philippines aims to become a regional hub for Halal-certified feed, combining local corn with Türkiye’s feed formulation expertise.
Turkish officials emphasized the their feeds contain no animal byproducts, aligning with Halal standards. They also proposed the Waqf fund scheme, an Islamic social finance model that channels agricultural investments into charitable returns.
Undersecretary for Mindanao BARMM Concerns Zamzamin L. Ampatuan welcomed the initiative and invited Turkish participation in the November Halal Expo.
Shared strengths and technical support
The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) recently donated hauling trucks to farmers in Sorsogon province in the Bicol Region. Ten groups benefited from the donation, including women’s and indigenous associations.

Türkiye brings poultry expertise Halal standards, and agricultural finance to the table. The Philippines contributes feed production capacity, regulatory strength, and a growing poultry industry.
These complementary strengths are expected to support long-term poultry trade and investment.
Trade momentum and future outlook
Philippine exports to Türkiye rose from USD 16.8 million in 2021 to USD 42.2 million in 2024. In H1 2025, the Philippines posted a USD 16.0 million trade surplus, driven by key agricultural products.
The Philippine delegation included Undersecretary for Livestock Constante Palabrica and Mr Ampatuan, along with leaders from the Bureau of Animal Industry and National Meat Inspection Service. Ambassador HE Niyazi Akyol led the Turkish delegation.
Both sides agreed that shared standards and mutual investment can drive sustainable poultry sector growth.
