Saha Farms to continue a 50-year legacy

Escrito por: aviNews Asia

Thailand’s chicken producer and exporter Saha Farms has joined forces with chicken genetics company Cobb to honor their shared commitment to values of family, excellence, integrity, and innovation.

This collaboration will focus on developing production systems that meet international standards to enhance competitiveness and meet the growing global demand for quality protein.

It was revealed that over the past 50 years, Saha Farms has stood as a pioneer in the Thai chicken export business, with Dr Panya Chotitawan laying the foundation and expanding into the global market, establishing a reputation as an exporter trusted by key trading partners like Japan and the EU, which place the utmost importance on food safety standards.

“This new collaboration with Cobb builds on our success and enhances Thailand’s competitiveness, not only in animal genetics, but also in farm management systems, modern farming technologies, and product development to meet the diverse needs of the global market,” said Dr Manoonsri Chotitawan, Executive Chairman of Saha Farms.

As a partner, Cobb congratulates the Saha Farms family on becoming the number one fresh chicken exporter in Thailand and confirms that Cobb is ready to stand alongside Saha Farms to create sustainable growth together.

“Today, we come together to continue the legacy of Dr Panya Chotitawan, founder of Saha Farms, who began his collaboration with Cobb over 30 years ago with the vision of selecting the best genetics to meet customer needs,” said Shelby Watkins, Cobb President.

That partnership not only laid the foundation for Saha Farms’ growth but has also been passed down to Cobb’s distributor network across Asia to this day.

“At Cobb, we have always believed that organizations rooted in values, rather than simply focusing on transactions or business gains, will truly stand the test of time. We look for alignment in values before embarking on a partnership, and Saha Farms has clearly demonstrated that they share Cobb’s values of family, excellence, integrity and innovation,” Mr Watkins explained.

The values

Long-term growth potential

Dr Jaruwan Chotitawan, President of International Marketing, Accounting, Finance and Secretary to the Executive Chairman of Saha Farms said the collaboration reflects the long-term growth potential of the Thai chicken industry, supported by a strong partnership like with Cobb, which has consistently proven itself to be a global leader in genetics and innovative chicken breeding.

She added that this not only produces strong, fast-growing breeds with excellent feed efficiency, but also enables global producers, including Saha Farms, to deliver high-quality products in significant quantities to meet the steadily increasing demand for protein.

“As Thai entrepreneurs, we believe that the Thai chicken industry has significant growth potential. This collaboration will help Saha Farms develop a production system that addresses quality, safety, and sustainability, in line with international standards and the needs of environmentally conscious consumers,” said Dr Jaruwan.

Meeting international standards

Saha Farms also emphasizes farm management in accordance with international standards (Good Farming Practices), traceability systems, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) guidelines to ensure that all products are produced with responsibility towards consumers, society, and the environment.

While the global market still faces challenges due to tariff barriers, for Thai exporters, particularly Saha Farms, the impact has been negligible, as Thai chicken quality and safety standards remain well-accepted and its competitive advantage has enabled continued market expansion.

Meanwhile, protein demand is expanding rapidly in many regions, particularly the Middle East, Africa and South America, where high-quality, responsibly produced protein sources are sought.

“This collaboration with Cobb not only strengthens our breed and management capabilities but also presents a significant opportunity to elevate Thai chicken’s image as a global protein hub, enhancing food security, and driving sustainable growth,” said Dr Jaruwan.

The MoU between Saha Farms and Cobb not only reflects the potential of Thai entrepreneurs to persevere amid trade challenges but also reinforces Thailand’s role as a hub for quality protein production in Asia, where many exporting countries still face cost and production standard constraints.

Saha Farms’ strengthening of its genetics and management systems will enhance the competitiveness of the Thai chicken industry to meet the growing global demand for protein. This move could be a key catalyst for Thailand’s long-term leadership in the global food chain.
