Vietnam’s poultry market experienced significant fluctuations in supply-demand, pricing, and trade activities during the first six months of 2025, according to aggregated data from AgroMonitor.
A key highlight was the sharp growth of breeding chicken exports, while domestic broiler prices diverged noticeably between regions.
White-feathered chicken
The colored chicken market overall maintained good prices due to limited supply.
- North: white-feathered chicken prices once recovered thanks to higher consumption demand, but quickly fell again due to oversupply, commonly at USD 0.91-0.95/kg.
- South: thanks to the price gap with Cambodia (USD 0.47-0.55/kg), traders boosted unofficial exports (25,000-30,000 birds/day), keeping domestic prices stable at USD 1.11-1.15/kg.
- Day-old chicks (DOC): North USD 0.47-0.61/bird; South USD 0.52-0.64/bird. Exports of breeding chickens to Cambodia reached over 4.4 million birds, 3.4 times higher than the same period in 2024.
Colored chicken

- North: CP crossbred native (75–80 days) USD 1.57-1.65/kg; company-raised (100–105 days) USD 2.08-2.20/kg.
- South: the highest prices nationwide due to shortages; CP crossbred native (80 days) USD 1.85-1.89/kg, company-raised (>100 days) USD 2.16-2.35/kg.
Exports of colored chicken to Cambodia remained low (3,000 birds/day).
Egg market
Mid-Autumn Festival demand and Cambodian orders pushed egg prices higher.
- North: Mix03 reached USD 0.10/egg (+USD 0.01 vs. last week).
- South: 23.5 kg-type reached USD 0.09/egg.
Exports of Isa Warren breeding chickens (egg-laying type) to Cambodia rose 2.2 times, averaging 32,000-33,000 birds/month.
Imports
As of July 15, 2025, Vietnam imported:
- 1.69 million white-feathered parent stock (+37.8% YoY).
- 166,700 tons of poultry meat (+11.8%), mainly chicken feet, thighs, and minced meat.
- Live chicken imports dropped to 2,709 tons (-25.3%), reflecting a shift toward processed meat.
Exports
Chicken meat and breeding chicken exports continued to shine. Since the beginning of the year, Vietnam exported:
- Poultry meat: 3,000 tons (+13.2%), turnover USD 10.3 million (+41.5%). In June 2025 alone: USD 2.26 million (+280%), with Hong Kong accounting for 67%.
- Breeding chickens: over 6.4 million birds (+2.2 times).
- Eggs: USD 1.1 million (-24.4%).
Outlook
Market prospects differ across segments. For white-feathered chicken, Northern prices are likely to stop declining partly due to supply being redirected to the South.
Meanwhile, the South will continue to benefit from unofficial exports to Cambodia, helping prices maintain short-term growth.
For colored chicken, the North should maintain stable prices thanks to limited supply and strong demand from restaurants during peak tourism season. In the South, while shortages keep prices high, weaker local consumption may limit further increases.
