China’s WOD Chen-Long Biotechnology is strengthening its role as a global leader in poultry breeding and vaccines by expanding in Asean.
Vice President Wu Guiqin highlighted how the company has evolved over the past 50 years into a provider of integrated animal health solutions.
Shifting focus
Founded in 1975, WOD Chen-Long Biotechnology shifted its focus to independent research and development in 2000 and now operates one of China’s largest poultry biotechnology businesses.
The company has developed the Smart Layer digital management platform, which serves about 70% of China’s poultry farms, while maintaining 150,000 pedigree breeding lines and 550,000 sets of grandparent breeding stock.
Market leadership at home and abroad
WOD Chen-Long Biotechnology holds about 60% of China’s poultry breeding market. Its Jing layer hens and WOD broiler breeds are widely used across the industry.
Internationally, it has exported more than 72,300 sets of parent breeding chicks, 270,000 parent-stock hatching eggs, and 830,000 commercial hatching eggs, supplying markets across Africa, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia.
The company has already established partnerships in Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar, with plans to expand into Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Beyond breeding stock, it also exports vaccines, feed premixes, and integrated health management systems to support sustainable poultry production.

With revenue reaching USD 255 million in 2025, WOD Chen-Long Biotechnology continues to invest in vaccine development and biological technologies. Its goal is to strengthen food security and promote international cooperation in agriculture.

YuKou Poultry: breeding innovation
YuKou Poultry has independently developed five Jing layer hen breeds and three WOD broiler breeds. By 2023, it operated 16 branches across 12 provinces, with 400,000 grandparent breeders and 5 million parent breeders. Its annual capacity reached 250 million chicks and pullets, accounting for over 50% of China’s market.
The company remains committed to building China’s poultry brand and developing new breeds of Jing and WOD.
Smart Food: processing and production
Smart Food focuses on chicken processing and the promotion of small white chickens and optimizing the production of white feather and yellow feather chickens.
It has built strategies across key regions including Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, the Greater Bay Area, and the Yangtze River Delta.
Facilities include a breeder industrial park with an annual production of 200 million chicks and pullets in Daming, Hebei Province, a broiler industrial park with an annual output of 20 million broilers in Chengwu and Pingyuan, Shandong Province, respectively.
The company also has a broiler slaughterhouse in Chengwu with an annual capacity of 50 million.
Wode Botron: digital transformation
Wode Botron specializes in the digital economy and serves the poultry industry with internet and informational technologies.
With the ‘Smarter Layers’ platform, the company has gathered all resources in the value chain to build online and offline platform integration with breeding, trading, financial services, and other functions, promoting the reciprocity in the industry chain, thereby achieving the goal of ‘be happy to farm, be easy to trade’.
