Hanoi, Vietnam moving quickly to digitize food management. The city’s official food safety and traceability platform will go live no later than April 15, 2026.
This initiative, signed by Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Vu Dai Thang, aims to strengthen food quality oversight and protect consumer rights across the capital.
Digitization and food origin transparency
The Department of Science and Technology has been tasked with completing the system. Businesses and households will be able to update data, while citizens gain access to monitor and track supplies.
By April 10, 2026, all food producers and traders must publicly disclose product origins. This ensures comprehensive inspection data and allows consumers to identify safe products through a dedicated website and electronic traceability tools.
Stricter oversight of canteens and street food
The new management framework will prioritize high-risk sectors:
- School canteens: The Department of Education and Training will be fully accountable for violations. Food sources and menus at educational institutions must be transparent and strictly verified.
- Slaughterhouses and fresh produce: The Department of Agriculture and Environment will conduct general inspections of suppliers for school canteens and street food, resolutely handling any undocumented animal products circulating in the city.
- Street food: Local authorities at the ward and commune levels are tasked with regular and surprise inspections to ensure veterinary hygiene and food safety.
To support the public, the hotline 024.1022 (ext. 8) remains available 24/7 to receive and handle any complaints regarding food safety violations throughout the city.
