The Malaysian government announced that restrictions on the export of live chicken to other countries would be gradually lifted.
According to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industries, Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee, lifting this ban initially allows the export of about 1.8 million chickens per month. It corresponds to the extra chicken Malaysia produced in the third quarter of 2022.
- The minister said each poultry farm has a limited number of chickens it can export according to its monthly chicken production. He was very emphatic, indicating that those who do not meet these conditions will not be able to ship live chickens to other countries.
“The ministry, through the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) and the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (MAQIS), will continue to monitor the supply of chicken in the country as well as the implementation of live commercial broiler exports, which will involve almost 100 exporting breeders through the monitoring mechanism that has been developed,” said the minister in a statement.
The lifting of these restrictions only applies to live chickens. However, the ban on exports of other poultry products, such as whole chickens, chicken parts, and even chicks, will remain in place until further orders from the government.
Although these restrictions were not lifted for the poultry products mentioned above, only the fact that it exports live chicken benefits countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Japan, and Hong Kong.
