A new fermentation product enhances egg production and quality.
Egg producers can now utilize the power of Aspergillus oryzae (AO) to improve production in a supply-challenged industry.
BioZyme® Inc. recently released AO-Biotics® EQE, a postbiotic developed specifically for layers using patent-pending technology. The first postbiotic of its kind, AO-Biotics EQE was developed using BioZyme’s proprietary strain of AO, a fungus used to specially ferment biotics tailored to address specific production challenges.
AO-Biotics is a line of fermentation products derived from BioZyme’s innovative fermentation of AO to promote resilience. BioZyme’s pre- and post-biotics are made through a unique process that leverages AO to target specific problems affecting animal health, welfare and/or productivity. This innovative approach uses AO as a biofactory to create biotics that leverage animal resilience to face a specific challenge, like improving egg production.
“We are unique because, first, we use AO, which is Aspergillus oryzae, and second, we own the fermentation process,” says Fernando Bargo, BioZyme regional business
and innovation manager. “We control the fermentation process so we can produce something that is unique.”
AO-Biotics EQE was developed to address specific challenges in the laying industry to help producers achieve:
- More sellable eggs.
- Improved egg mass.
- Increased productive life span.
“The demand for [eggs] is increasing and leading producers to adapt to new challenges, like, for example, extending the productive life spans of their animals in order to reduce the number of animals that you need to replace each year,” says Dr. César Ocasio, BioZyme regional business and innovation manager.
University research and field trials report including AO-Biotics EQE in the diet throughout the production cycle has been shown to increase the number of sellable eggs per hen by approximately 3% and egg mass by approximately 2%, on average.
AO-Biotics EQE is the first and only AO postbiotic developed specifically for laying hens, using patent-pending technology.
Get more sellable eggs, more egg mass, and extend the productive life of hens with AO-Biotics EQE. On average, research shows:
Figure 1: Results obtained during the validation periods were used to calculate number of sellable eggs, standardizing the number of animals in each of the houses to 20,000 and the weeks of production to 18.
Figure 2: Results obtained in egg production (%) during the validation periods.

Results also show an approximate 3% improvement in egg production and a remarkable 20-25% reduction in mortality.
“We’re proud to introduce AO-Biotics EQE to help egg producers essentially do more with less,” says Lisa Norton, BioZyme president and chief executive officer.
“Our proprietary fermentation processes are backed by decades of knowledge and research that we are leveraging to enable passionate solutions to animal agriculture’s challenges.”

About BioZyme® Inc.:
For over 70 years, BioZyme has included research as one of its core values. They choose to invest in research so they can be forward-thinking and innovative while staying ahead in their commitment to care that comes full circle. They use a 3-prong approach.
1. Discovery studies focus on the generation of new hypotheses that fit or explain given data sets.
2. Mechanistic studies use the difference between treatment groups to explore the mechanism of action of the treatment. The result of these efforts is to not only know
that a treatment works, but to know how it works.
3. Validation studies generate and document data by observing animals in their normal and natural environments either as a control or with a specific treatment. Validation helps define the scope or range of conditions.
