Scaling poultry: Asia’s egg powerhouses

Escrito por: aviNews Asia

To meet their egg demand, top egg-producing countries in Asia have developed extensive poultry raising systems. These nations have modern poultry farms and government assistance to boost output and enhance quality.

China leads the world in egg production, yielding over 612 billion eggs annually. It has a highly developed poultry farming industry, comprising large commercial farms and conventional backyard setups.

Provinces like Shandong and Henan produce most of the country’s eggs, using advanced breeding and feeding technology.

Eggs—mostly from chickens—are a staple in Chinese homes.

Indonesia, which has a rapidly expanding poultry industry, ranks second globally, producing 144 billion eggs per year.

Most production occurs on Java Island, where small and medium-sized farms dominate. Laying hens are raised and kept in semi-open sheds or cages.

Government support, including veterinary care and feed subsidies, plays a key role in expanding the sector nationwide.

India is third in global rankings, with 142 billion eggs produced annually.

It has a robust poultry farming network, particularly in states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana.

Production comes mainly from commercial layer farms, where hens are raised in controlled conditions for a higher yield.

The National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) is essential to stabilizing prices and supporting farmers.

Japan’s poultry industry focuses on hygiene, efficiency, and quality over quantity.

It produces 32-40 billion eggs yearly, from farms that are highly automated and tightly regulated, particularly on hygiene.

Since most eggs are eaten raw or partially cooked, freshness and safety are top priorities.

Despite a slight decline in output, Japan remains a global leader in egg quality and innovation.

Increasing protein demand continues to fuel growth in Pakistan’s egg production, now reaching 28.82 billion eggs each year.

Production centers on Sindh and Punjab, where medium scale layer farms dominate.

Modern facilities with improved feed and climate controls are expanding, however, many farms still employ traditional methods.
