China announced that it has lifted import restrictions on poultry and related products from the United States, according to a statement jointly published by the General Customs Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.

In the Ministry’s publication, it is indicated that this decision was taken after the risk assessment , the declaration, which came into effect immediately, eliminated a series of restrictions imposed by the currently-extinguished General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the Ministry of Agriculture in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Since 2015, Beijing had banned all trade in poultry products from the United States, due to outbreaks of avian influenza in this country.

China approved imports of poultry meat products in November 2019 as a concession to the US. before finalizing a limited commercial agreement.

The new announcement, as reported in Channel News Asia , would also allow the importation of live birds, said Li Jinghui of the Chinese Poultry Association, benefiting companies such as Aviagen and Cobb-Vantress , both based in the United States and among companies of the world’s largest avian genetics.
