According to the Vietnam’s Import-Export Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the tariff-rate quota (TRQ) for poultry egg imports under WTO commitments in 2026 is 75,809 dozen, equivalent to 909,708 eggs.
Poultry egg quotas increase steadily every year
When Vietnam joined the WTO in 2007, the country committed to a poultry egg import quota of 30,000 dozen. Each year, this quota has increased by about 5%. By 2026, the figure will have more than doubled, reaching nearly 1 million eggs.
Under the 2017 Law on Foreign Trade Management, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will determine the annual import quota based on actual domestic production and consumption, then notify the Ministry of Industry and Trade for official announcement.
Adjustments to protect domestic production
For many years, the published poultry egg import quota matched WTO commitments. However, since 2024, the published quota has been slightly lower to safeguard domestic production:
- 2024: 68,670 dozen announced, lower than the committed 90,000 dozen.
- 2025: 72,104 dozen announced, lower than the committed 95,000 dozen.
This adjustment aims to balance compliance with international commitments while ensuring the sustainable growth of the domestic poultry sector.
Importers must use eggs for the right purpose
Enterprises allocated TRQs for poultry egg imports are responsible for using them for the stated purposes. They are prohibited from reselling, transferring, or misusing the quota. Importers must also submit periodic reports on their import activities to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will finalize the specific poultry egg quota and notify the Ministry of Industry and Trade by November 15, 2025. The official circular on TRQs for poultry eggs is expected to be issued in December 2025.
