Vietnam has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to import over USD 600 million worth of animal feed from companies in Ohio, USA.

The deal was effected during an official visit to Ohio by a delegation from Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, led by Minister Đỗ Đức Duy, who met with state leaders and local businesses to enhance agricultural cooperation.

During a bilateral meeting with Ohio’s Secretary of Agriculture, Brian Baldridge, both sides agreed to strengthen agricultural trade particularly in complementary sectors.

The MoU was one of the major outcomes of the visit. It covers essential commodities like corn, soybeans, soybean meal, and other feed-related products.

Mr Baldridge highlighted the strong trade potential between Vietnam and the US—especially with Ohio— emphasizing their complementary agricultural strengths.

Vietnam excels in tropical agricultural products, such as coffee, pepper, cashew nuts, fruits, and wooden furniture, while Ohio is a strong supplier of goods like soybeans, corn, beef, dairy products, and timber—items Vietnam does not produce at a competitive scale.

Expanding partnerships and opportunities in the US

At the Vietnam-Ohio Business Connection Conference, Vietnamese enterprises met directly with US suppliers to explore partnership in animal feed, lumber, fruits, and meat.

Business representatives expressed hope that both governments would continue to support and facilitate a sustainable agricultural supply chain in both countries.

Patty Mann, Chairwoman of the Ohio Corn and Wheat Growers Association, praised Vietnam as a reliable and high-potential export market. She emphasized that expanding cooperation would allow Ohio to supply high-quality agricultural products globally, contributing to global food security.

Before the Ohio visit, Vietnamese businesses also traveled to Iowa, where they secured MoUs worth up to USD 800 million for agricultural imports.

They also established a dialogue channel between Vietnam’s Department of Livestock Production and Department of Animal Health and the Iowa Pork Producers Association, paving the way for enhanced public-private cooperation in livestock and food safety.
