From Colombia, the opening of the Cuban market for the export of fresh Colombian eggs is announced; three to five containers of this poultry product are expected to be sent to Cuba. This agreement was reached after a negotiation process with the National Center for Animal Health, the health authority of the Caribbean country.

  • With the objective of benefiting the national poultry production sector and contributing to the economic development of the country in the export of agricultural products, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) announced the opening of the Cuban market for the export of eggs. fresh Colombians, after a negotiation process with the National Center for Animal Health, the health authority of this country.

During this negotiation process, which began in July 2023, the proposed requirements to advance with exports were socialized, which aim to guarantee the health of the products to be exported and protect the health status of the interested countries. Once these requirements were reviewed, the Zoosanitary Export Certificate was approved, giving the green light to the entry of fresh eggs of Colombian origin into Cuba.

  • It is expected to begin exporting three to five containers of eggs per month to Cuba.
  • Colombia maintains its status as a self-declared country free of highly pathogenic avian influenza.
  • With this admissibility, 16 new markets will open in 2023.

AMONG THE ESTABLISHED REQUIREMENTS THE FOLLOWING ARE:

Colombia must be self-declared before the WHOA as a country free of avian influenza and Newcastle disease and the laboratory results obtained through active and passive epidemiological surveillance have demonstrated the absence of viral circulation in commercial stocks of genetic material, posture and fattening

The farms of origin of the flocks where the eggs are collected must be under official veterinary control, including the national residue program, especially the prudent use of antimicrobials.

The general manager of the ICA, Juan Fernando Roa, stated that “We are pleased to announce this important news for the poultry sector, which will bring great benefits to the national economy, the generation of employment and the transformation of the Colombian countryside. This new market corresponds to admissibility number 16 of 2023, which reflects our commitment to the generation of healthy, safe and quality products.”

The ICA, as a health authority and strategic ally of the Colombian countryside, will continue working with small, medium and large producers to maintain health status, increase the certification of biosafe poultry farms and diversify the export offer of Colombian poultry products.
