Scientific roundtable highlights breeder metabolism and reproductive efficiency at Bengaluru book pre-launch

The book was born out of a growing need to better understand the biological mechanisms that underpin reproductive performance in modern broiler breeders.

Poultry industry leaders, veterinarians, consultants and breeder specialists gathered in Bengaluru, India on June 10 for a Scientific Leadership Roundtable and the pre-launch of the AMPK Reproductive Revolution, a new monograph by avian reproductive biologist Dr Pradip P Linge.

Held at the Sheraton Grand Bangalore Hotel at Brigade Gateway, the invitation-only event brought together a cross-section of the Indian poultry sector to discuss emerging scientific perspectives on breeder performance, hatchability and reproductive efficiency.

In his opening remarks, Dr Linge said the book was born out of a growing need to better understand the biological mechanisms that underpin reproductive performance in modern broiler breeders. The publication explores the role of AMP (adenosine monophosphate)-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and cellular energy regulation in influencing breeder productivity, embryonic development and flock longevity.

The scientific program began with a presentation by Dr Nikita Deshmukh on ‘Broiler Breeder Metabolism: The Hidden Driver of Reproductive Consistency’. Dr Sujit Menon followed with a presentation titled ‘Embryonic Development as a Reflection of Breeder Metabolic Health’.

A moderated industry discussion formed the centerpiece of the evening. Chaired by Dr Pankaj Shukla, the panel examined flock consistency, hatchability concerns, future production challenges and the role of science-driven management in improving performance.

Panelists included Dr Praharaj N K, Dr Rais Rajpura, Dr Ajay Deshpande, Mr Sameer Agarwal, Dr Ravindra Jaiswal, Dr Harsha Shetty, Dr Avinash Dhawale and Dr Ravinder Reddy.

Several distinguished guests were felicitated during the program, including Mr M R I Magdum, Mr K G Anand, Dr Pankaj Shukla, Mr Sameer Agarwal, Dr Ajay Deshpande and Dr Ravindra Jaiswal.

In his author address, titled ‘Why This Book Had to Be Written Now’, Dr Linge outlined the scientific journey behind the publication and emphasized the importance of bridging fundamental biology with field-level breeder management.

The evening also included a special felicitation of Dr Chin Hou Cheong, recognized as Guest of Honor and dedicatee of the publication, and Dr Sujit Menon, acknowledged as co-dedicatee.

The ceremonial pre-launch concluded with a networking dinner, allowing participants to continue discussions on breeder management, reproductive health and future research priorities.

The strong participation from across the poultry value chain reflected a growing appetite within the industry for scientific approaches that can translate biological understanding into measurable improvements in breeder performance.
