South Korea to resume chicken exports to Hong Kong

All 36 cities and counties where exports to Hong Kong had been suspended can now export again.

Hong Kong will resume imports of South Korean chicken as quarantine negotiations successfully conclude, according to South Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

The ministry announced on July 26 that quarantine negotiations to resume exports of South Korean fresh poultry products—including chicken and eggs—to Hong Kong were completed as of July 20, making exports possible once again.

Exports of poultry products to Hong Kong had been suspended by city and county since June last year as a result of the AI outbreaks. However, starting in March this year, as the quarantine status for some regions was lifted, the ministry has been swiftly negotiating with the Hong Kong government (Food and Environmental Hygiene Department) to resume exports.

With the successful conclusion of these negotiations, all 36 cities and counties where exports to Hong Kong had been suspended can now export again.

Poultry products produced at domestic plants already registered with the Hong Kong government (including 46 chicken processing facilities) can be exported immediately after quarantine inspection by the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency.

Plants seeking to newly export products can apply for registration with the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency.

Park Sangho, Director General for International Agricultural Cooperation at the ministry stated, “With this achievement, we expect exports of fresh South Korean poultry products to Hong Kong will return to normal. We will continue to actively pursue quarantine negotiations with promising countries to expand exports of K-Food.”
