After long months of being affected by the impacts of new outbreaks and declared cases of avian influenza throughout the country, Spain declares itself free of highly pathogenic avian influenza. The objective of this self-declaration is the restitution of the free status of highly pathogenic avian influenza in relation to the provisions of Chapter 10.4. of the OMSA Terrestrial Animal Health Code (Terrestrial Code). The date of the self-declaration began on March 11, 2023, and brings together the entire Spanish territory.
If we analyze the data from May 3 of last year, when the last declaration of free from the virus was proclaimed in Spain, until the end of December, a total of 7 outbreaks were reported in poultry:
- 2 in Andalusia
- 2 in Castilla-La Mancha
- 1 in Extremadura
- 1 in Castilla y León
- 1 in Catalonia
