The February World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture indicated that according to the preliminary data from hatcheries and processing plants, broiler and turkey production would increase in the first quarter of this year. However, the feed costs will increase, causing a reduction in egg production by the second half.
Here, there is an overview from the WASDE report for broiler, egg, and turkey production:
Broiler production: The first quarter’s production projection is 11,050 million pounds, representing almost 11 million pounds more than the fourth quarter of 2020, but 187 million pounds less than the same period last year. It is important to know that the production for 2021 is projected to be 44,880 million pounds.
It accounts for 306 million more pounds than the February estimate for 2020 and 975 million more than 2019.
On the other hand, the projected price for the first quarter is around 85 cents per pound, 15 cents higher than the same period last year. Also, it is estimated an increase of 5 cents/lb for the second quarter.
Egg production: A reduction of 69 million dozen eggs is estimated during the first three months compared to the last quarter of 2020, where 2,369 million dozen were produced. The February projection for 2021 is around 9,340 million dozen eggs, representing an increase with respect to the 2020 February estimate (9,267 million dozen eggs), but a reduction compared to 2019.

In general, for the first quarter, the egg price per dozen is estimated at 117 cents, which could reduce to 98 cents/dozen for the second quarter.
Turkey production: In the first quarter of 2020, 1,469 million pounds of turkey were produced. For this year, only 1,415 million pounds have been anticipated for the same period. It is expected that 5 million pounds more will be produced for the second quarter. The total February projection for the whole year is 5,725 million pounds, the same prediction that January. The estimated price was slightly increased from 107.5 cents/lb in January to 111 cents/pound this month.
Despite all the impact produced by the covid-19 on the poultry industry, the forecast shows a slight increase in the poultry production quarter by quarter. It is expected to grow 51,145 million pounds among broilers, turkeys, and mature chicken this year. This represents around 279 million pounds more than 2020.
