At the second annual meeting between Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on October 28 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the two sides agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in strategic sectors, with agriculture and food security identified as one of the new pillars of collaboration.

Mr Wong emphasized that Singapore considers Vietnam an important partner in ensuring a stable supply of food and agricultural products. Singapore is ready to increase imports of processed poultry, pork, fish, and seafood from Vietnam.

He also commended Vietnam’s efforts to enhance its production capacity, improve food safety standards, traceability, and product quality. All these are crucial factors for Vietnamese agricultural goods to gain deeper access to Singapore’s distribution systems.

Experts noted that demand for processed poultry products in Singapore continues to grow, especially for Halal-certified, ready-to-eat, and long-shelf-life items. This presents significant opportunities for Vietnam’s livestock and food processing enterprises to expand investment, upgrade technology, and build high-quality export poultry brands.

Deeper cooperation in agri-tech and food supply chains

Vietnam affirmed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, together with local authorities, will work closely with Singaporean agencies to expand market access for Vietnamese poultry products. Both sides also aim to promote joint investment projects in livestock production, food processing, cold chain technology, and agri-logistics.

The two leaders acknowledged positive progress in economic cooperation, particularly in clean energy, carbon credits, and innovation, and agreed to continue developing new cooperation mechanisms, including smart agriculture and digital agricultural data.

Mr Chinh highlighted that Vietnam hopes Singapore will continue sharing its experience in food supply chain management, quality control, and advanced food processing. Such collaboration, he noted, will help enhance the value and competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products, especially processed poultry in international markets.
