According to preliminary data from the Vietnam’s General Department of Customs, in the first eight months of 2025, the country’s corn imports reached over 6.75 million tons of corn worth nearly USD 1.73 billion, at an average price of USD 256 per ton.
Compared to the same period in 2024, Vietnam’s import volume decreased by 2.6%, while import turnover slightly increased by 0.8% and prices rose by 3.5%.
In August 2025 alone, corn imports reached 1.28 million tons, valued at USD 315.2 million, with an average price of USD 246.5 per ton, a sharp increase of 24.4% in volume and 20.9% in turnover compared to July 2025, though prices dropped by 2.8%.
Year-on-year, August imports rose 7.5% in volume, 10.8% in turnover, and 3.1% in price.
Main suppliers
Argentina remained the largest source, accounting for over 55% of total volume and 54.8% of turnover.
In the first eight months, imports from Argentina reached nearly 3.72 million tons, worth more than USD 947.9 million, averaging USD 255 per ton (down 8.1% in volume and 3.1% in turnover, but prices rose 5.4% year-on-year).
In August 2025 alone, imports from Argentina totaled 805,176 tons, worth USD 197.7 million at an average price of USD 245.5 per ton (up sharply by 46% in volume and 41.3% in turnover compared to July 2025, but prices fell by 3.2%).
Brazil ranked second, with 1.48 million tons worth USD 367.9 million, averaging USD 248.7 per ton, accounting for 21.9% of volume and 21.3% of turnover.
Compared to the first eight months of 2024, imports fell by 17.2% in volume, 18.9% in turnover, and 2.1% in price.
Other markets:
- Laos: 51,975 tons (USD 11.72 million, USD 225.5 per ton), down 30.3% in volume, 37.1% in turnover, and 9.8% in price.
- Cambodia: 53,846 tons, worth USD 12.41 million.
- Thailand: 3,417 tons, worth USD 12.76 million, with a slight decline in volume (-1.3%) but turnover up 2.9%.
