Trade disruptions along the Cambodia-Thailand border have opened news space for Vietnamese goods in the Cambodian market. Among the rising imports, Vietnamese chicken eggs stand out for their rapid market entry and growing consumer demand.
According to Khmer Times, essential food items such as instant noodles, milk, and chicken eggs from Vietnam have recently flooded supermarkets and convenience stores in Phnom Penh.
Of these, chicken eggs show particularly fast growth, thanks to competitive pricing, consistent quality, and steady supply.
An executive from a Ho Chi Minh City egg producer revealed that surging demand from Cambodian buyers has, at times, caused domestic egg price spikes due to aggressive bulk buying by traders.
“The unexpected surge in demand from the Cambodian market forced us to revise our production plans and increase capacity to meet the growing needs,” the executive shared.
Supermarkets in Phnom Penh are now favor egg imports from Vietnam over those from Thailand or Laos—countries that share land borders with Cambodia, but are currently struggling with supply chain issues.
Many Cambodian retailers even liken the presence of Vietnamese eggs to “scoring into an open goal,” effectively filling a market gap left unattended by others.
Vietnam’s growing egg exports to Cambodia are not solely market-driven—they are backed by policy initiatives and infrastructure upgrades.
In April 2025, Vietnam’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Nguyen Hong Dien, and Cambodia’s Minister of Commerce, Cham Nimul, signed a trade promotion agreement for the 2025-2026.
The deal reinforced business ties and opened new paths for expanded business collaboration between the two countries.

One examples was the Vietnam-Cambodia Business Networking Conference 2025 held on July 15 in Ho Chi Minh City. With around 200 companies attending, the event created new export opportunities for Vietnam’s agricultural and food sectors, including chicken eggs.
Infrastructure also plays a role. The upcoming HCMC-Mộc Bài Expressway is expected to shorten transport times, especially for perishable items. This will boost distribution efficiency and reduce logistics costs for exporters.
Vietnam currently ranks as Cambodia’s third-largest global trading partner—and largest within Southeast Asia.
This strong foundation positions Vietnamese exports, such as chicken eggs, to deepen market presence and capture a greater share in Cambodia.
