On-farm hatching offers healthy birds with a better feed conversion and higher slaughter weight. These and other advantages are the result of early feeding in broiler growing. Bart Janssen from The Netherlands has been using this system on his farm successfully for six years already.

“On-farm hatching is an excellent way to grow broilers”, says Bart Janssen. “I am convinced about that.”

Bart, together with his wife Ellly, owns and runs a broiler growing farm nearby the village of Zuidvelde in The Netherlands. Their farm is not very regular. Yet it is truly a full size professional operation. The farm has capacity for 500.000 broilers, which are kept in two ages and in thirteen houses.

Bart took over the farm from his parents, who started in the year 1975 with 10.000 birds only. Within a period of 5 years, capacity moved up to 90.000 birds and onwards to its current size. Bart (age 43) joined the family owned farm in the year 2000 and moved on in further professionalizing the operation.
