Malaysia is undergoing one of its most significant food industry transformations to date, driven by a unified push across retail, hospitality, and food service toward humane and transparent food production.
This movement, championed by leading retailers such as AEON Co and Jaya Grocer, represents a major national shift toward better welfare sourcing.
Selected AEON outlets have introduced dedicated shelves for Certified Humane by HFAC cage-free and free-range eggs, offering easier access to ethically produced food.
Jaya Grocer has taken a leadership role with its own house-brand cage-free eggs, ‘JS Eggs’, which are available nationwide and fully certified under the Certified Humane by HFAC standard.
This places the retailer at the forefront of Malaysia’s transition toward high-welfare sourcing with clear traceability from farm to shelf.
Retail sector
Malaysia’s major retail groups are aligning with global best practices for humane and sustainable sourcing.
Mydin and Beacon Mart have committed to transitioning entirely to cage-free eggs by 2030, while The Food Purveyor (TFP Group), which operates Village Grocer, targets 100% cage-free sourcing by 2035.
These long-term commitments underline a structural shift in Malaysia’s retail food ecosystem.
Production sector
Producers are rapidly expanding humane production capacity in response to growing demand.
TC Poultry Farm and Huat Lai Resources have achieved Certified Humane by HFAC status for their cage-free systems, together producing nearly 100,000 cage-free eggs daily.
Liang Kee Farming and Keris Aryan Farm are strengthening Certified Humane free-range egg supply, producing close to 10,000 eggs daily for premium retail and hospitality markets.
Huat Lai Resources has also introduced Certified Humane pasteurized liquid eggs, while TC Poultry Farm now supplies cage-free pasteurized liquid eggs in 5-kg tub formats, serving the hotel, restaurant, and bakery sectors.
Hospitality sector
Malaysia’s hospitality industry has become a role model for humane sourcing. Global hotel chains including Marriott, Hilton, Accor, Hyatt, Banyan Tree, Melia, Ascott, and Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur are integrating cage-free eggs into their procurement systems.
In the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) cluster, hotels such as Traders Hotel and Impiana KLCC have joined coordinated sustainability initiatives to adopt cage-free sourcing. Sunway Hotels & Resorts has committed to a full transition across all properties by 2030, reinforcing the sector’s national leadership.
Restaurant and cafes
Major restaurant groups are also embracing the shift. OldTown White Coffee and Nando’s Malaysia plan to fully transition to cage-free eggs by 2027. O’Briens Irish Sandwich Café targets 2025, Gloria Jean’s Coffees commits to 2027, and Chili’s aims for 2028.
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Malaysia has set a long-term commitment to achieve 100% cage-free sourcing by 2035 in line with global sustainability goals. These commitments highlight a nationwide movement toward ethical, high-welfare food systems across everyday dining and cafe culture.
