Morocco opens for chicks and hatching eggs from Brazil

The National Office for Sanitary Safety of Food Products (ONSSA) in Morocco has approved import of day-old chicks and hatching eggs from Brazil.

This approval depended on the availability of an International Zoosanitary Certificate (IZC).

According to chairman Francisco Turra of the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), this export authorisation strengthens the Brazilian position as a leading country of not just exporting poultry end products, but also hatching eggs and day-old chicks.

In 2019, Morocco imported over 3,7 million day-old chicks and hatching eggs from other countries. From now, Brazil will be an additional supplier.

Currently, Morocco  produces around 570,000 tonnes of poultry on an annual basis. In 2004, this figure accounted 275,000 tonnes. Hence, production more than doubled within 15 years.
