Vietnam boosts veterinary vaccine supply and export reach

A diverse vaccine supply and stronger inspections marked Vietnam’s push for safer, more competitive veterinary drug systems.

Vietnam continued to strengthen its livestock disease prevention strategy in 2025. Domestic enterprises played a growing role, while imports of veterinary vaccines remained essential, particularly to address serious diseases affecting poultry and livestock.

The Department of Livestock Production and Animal Health also intensified nationwide inspections and oversight of veterinary drug production, trade, and usage across the country.

Vaccine supply holds steady as disease prevention intensifies

According to the Department’s report, total production and imports of veterinary vaccines in 2025 remained high, meeting national needs for livestock disease control.

Key figures include:

Avian influenza: Over 918 million doses produced and imported, down from over 1.033 billion doses in 2024; with 116.7 million doses in storage.
Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD): More than 41 million doses, up sharply from more than 28 million doses in 2024; inventory exceeded 9.5 million doses.
PRRS (blue ear disease): Over 42 million doses produced and imported, up year-on-year; inventory exceeded 10 million doses.
Rabies vaccines: 5.7 million doses, down compared to 2024; inventory exceeded 3.8 million doses.
Lumpy skin disease vaccines: 1.4 million doses, with over 292.500 doses in storage.

This diverse vaccine supply supports Vietnam’s efforts to contain serious diseases affecting poultry and livestock nationwide.

Export growth signals rising global demand

Vietnam’s veterinary drug exports surged in 2025. The Department issued 4237 Certificates of Free Sale—2.6 times more than in 2024—and approved exports for 30 enterprises.

Currently, Vietnam exports 2,409 veterinary drug products and seven vaccines to over 46 countries and territories. Annual export value exceeded USD 42.8 million, up 1.5 times year-on-year.

The Department also approved trial permits for 21 vaccines and antibodies, issued nearly 4000 certificates of circulation, and received 2000 conformity declaration dossiers for veterinary drugs.

Stronger oversight and inspection measures

Inspection and supervision of veterinary drug activities were significantly expanded. Authorities reviewed nearly 7300 import consignments—3.5 times more than in 2024—and processed over 7000 quality inspection dossiers.

The Department joined the Central Interdisciplinary Task Force to inspect veterinary drugs containing narcotics and precursors at southern enterprise at enterprises in southern Vietnam.

Additional inspection teams were deployed in Dong Thap, Vinh Long, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, and Nghe An. A separate team focused on anti-smuggling and trade fraud in Dong Nai Province.

Certificates were issued to 44 facilities for import eligibility, 13 for production eligibility, and 16 manufacturers received GMP certification. Licenses for narcotic-related veterinary drugs were also granted.
