Thailand’s Department of Livestock Development (DLD) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives assures the public that broiler chicken products in Thailand are safe and completely free from growth-promoting hormones.

The use of such hormones in poultry farming is strictly illegal under Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health Notification No. 417/1985, dated 23 September 1986, which revoked the registration of hexoestrol, a hormone formerly used in poultry. Any illegal use is subject to legal action (DLD, 2018).

This strict regulation aligns not only with domestic law but also with international trade requirements set by key export partners such as the European Union and Japan, where hormone use in animal farming is explicitly prohibited.

As one of the top five global exporters of chicken meat and poultry products, Thailand has consistently upheld international food safety standards.

Routine inspections by the DLD’s Bureau of Livestock Product Standards involve nationwide random sampling of poultry products. To date, no traces of growth hormones have been detected. Furthermore, Thailand has implemented standardized broiler farm practices, all under the close supervision of the DLD.

Given its role as a major global exporter, Thailand is committed to complying with stringent international food safety regulations. The DLD reiterates that Thailand’s broiler industry is free from growth hormones and harmful residues, ensuring food safety for both domestic consumers and global markets.
