Vietnam cuts corn imports in H1 2025, prices show mixed trend
Vietnam's corn imports shrank year-on-year, with top supplier Argentina posting moderate declines and Brazil dropping steeply.

Vietnam imported nearly 4.45 million tons of corn in the first half of 2025 (H1 2025), worth over USD 1.15 billion. The average price was USD 259.3/ton, according to preliminary data from the Vietnam General Department of Customs recently.
Compared to H1 2024, import volume fell by 8.3% and value declined by 5.1%, but the average price increased by 3.5%.
In June 2025 alone, Vietnam imported 469,996 tons of corn valued at USD 122.25 million, with an average price of USD 260/ton.
- Compared to May 2025, volume and value declined sharply by 53.6% and 53.9%, respectively, while the price dropped slightly by 0.7%.
- Relative to June 2024, imports fell by 28.2% and 22.9%, respectively in volume and value, but average price rose by 7.3%.
Key suppliers
Argentina:
Argentina remained Vietnam’s largest corn supplier in H1 2025, accounting for over 53% of the total import volume and value.
- Total volume: nearly 2.36 million tons
- Total value: over USD 611.25 million
- Average price: USD 258.6 per ton
Compared to H1 2024, imports from Argentina fell by 7.1% in volume and 0.9% in value, while the average price increased by 6.7%.
In June 2025, Vietnam imported 392,055 tons of corn from Argentina, worth USD 100.68 million, at an average price of USD 256.8/ton. Compared to May 2025, both volume and value plunged over 51%, with the price down 0.6%.
Compared to June 2024, imports fell 26.9% in volume and 22% in value, but the price increased by 6.6%.
Brazil:
Brazil was Vietnam’s second-largest supplier, accounting for 22.6% of total volume and 21.7% of total import value.

- Average price: USD 249.4/ton
Compared to the first half of 2024, imports from Brazil dropped by 32.8% in volume, 34.7% in value. The average price declined by 2.9%.
Other markets
In addition to the two main markets, Vietnam also imported corn from several other sources in H1 2025:
Laos:
- Volume: 49,561 tons
- Value: USD 11.19 million
- Average price: USD 225.7/ton
Relative to H1 2024, volume, value and price were down 33.6%, 40%, and 9.7%, respectively.
Thailand:
- Volume: 2437 tons
- Value: USD 9.36 million
Compared to H1 2024: volume down 27.6%, value down 20%.
India:
- Volume: 1645 tons
- Value: USD 2.89 million
Compared to H1 2024: volume down 35.8%, value plummeted by 57.8%.
