Unsafe food for the poor and safe food for the middle class – such discrimination must be eliminated, said Farida Akhter, Advisor to the current interim government in the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in Bangladesh.
“This cannot be allowed. Safe food must be ensured for all people,” she stressed.
She was inaugurating the 7th International Scientific Conference on Food Safety and Health at Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council (BARC) auditorium.
Livestock and fisheries also play an important role in food production, said Mrs Akhter as quoted by BSS News.
“There is a deep relationship between food production and public health. Conscious people want to get chemical-free and antibiotic-free fish and meat even if they pay more money. But the common or working people are not aware of whether food is safe,” she explained.
At the conference, Shamsul Arefin Khaled, President of the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC) spoke as the guest of honor.
