In July 2024, Colorado faced a significant outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in a commercial poultry production unit located in Weld County. The severity of the situation prompted authorities to take drastic measures, resulting in the sacrifice of approximately 1.8 million laying hens.
