The Philippine Department of Agriculture (DA) has lifted its temporary ban on imports of poultry and poultry products from Australia.
The ban imposed in June 2024 following outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H7N3 and H7N9) in Victoria.
Prior to the ban, Australia was a significant source of chicken meat and mechanically deboned meat. It also supplied DOC and hatching eggs to the Philippines.
Data from the Bureau of Animal Industry show the Philippines imported over 9300 tons of chicken meat and 525 tons of duck meat from Australia.
Australia now HPAI-free
The order follows updated assessments confirming Australia’s resolved status on highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).
Reports from the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) state all HPAI outbreaks in Australia have ended. Dr Beth Crookson, Australia’s WOAH delegate, reported that no new cases have occurred since June 13, 2025.
Imports from Australia may now resume, following all DA’s existing regulations.
