The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has reported a public health alert that comprises almost 211,406 lb of raw ground turkey products since they have caused Salmonella Hadar illness. These products were manufactured by Plainville Brands, LLC in Pennsylvania. However, it was unnecessary to emit a market recall because the products are not more available to be purchased.
The turkey products mentioned in the alert were produced between December 18, 2020, to December 29, 2020, and are the following:
| 1. 1-lb. packages of Nature’s Promise Free from 94% LEAN | 6% FAT Ground Turkey with Use by/freeze/sell by date of 1/1/21, 1/3/21,1/4/21, 1/8/21, and 1/10/21 on the front of the package. |

“The products bear establishment number EST. P-244 inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.”
The main concern is that consumers could freeze the raw ground turkey products, and currently can exist some of them with a high risk of causing disease. If you have stored any of those products at home, you should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
During December 28, 2020, and March 4, 2021, FSIS, Centers of Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC), together with other institutions, have reported a spread of Salmonella Hadar disease with a total of 28 outbreaks in 12 states across the United States. One of the cases was related to the consumption of ground turkey from Plainville Brands, LLC. One unopened ground turkey package from the patient’s home was analyzed and positive to Salmonella Hadar. It was correlated with the patient’s sample.
“Evidence collected to date does not link all illnesses to this establishment. Based on the continuing investigation, additional products from other establishments may be involved.”
According to the CDC, there are 1,35 million infections, 26,500 hospitalizations, and 420 deaths per year in the U.S. Food is considered the main infection source. Some patients infected can experiment diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps.
