The Indonesian Cage-Free Association (ICFA) will be conducting its 2nd Annual National Members Meeting in Surabaya, East Java on June 11.
According to ICFA, the meeting is a strategic forum that convenes cage-free egg producers from across the country. The meeting also serves as a catalyst for industry alignment, enabling stakeholders to exchange insights, adopt best practices, and respond collectively to emerging trends shaping the cage-free sector.
“This forum provides a critical platform to evaluate progress, address key challenges, and unlock new opportunities in the transition toward cage-free systems. By fostering stronger collaboration among members, we continue to reinforce our leadership in advancing sustainable, welfare-oriented poultry production in Indonesia,” the association stated.

Pivotal role of ICFA
ICFA observed that the poultry industry in Indonesia is at a critical inflection point, where sustainability, animal welfare, and market competitiveness have become essential.
In response to evolving consumer expectations and global standards, cage-free egg production has emerged as a transformative approach that aligns ethical responsibility with long-term business value.

This transition is reinforced by the Indonesian government through its regulation (Permentan No. 32 Tahun 2025) on housing systems for laying hens, providing a clear regulatory framework and signaling a strong national commitment to sustainable and welfare-oriented production.
Within this landscape, ICFA plays a pivotal role in uniting producers, advancing best practices, and sustaining the nationwide adoption of cage-free systems.
1st National Members Meeting: A milestone
ICFA’s 1st National Members Meeting, which was held on May 17, 2025 in Bali, marked a significant milestone in the development of the cage-free ecosystem in Indonesia.
The event brought together more than 50 participants, including ICFA members and key stakeholders from the poultry industry, with strong support from event sponsors.
At the time of the meeting, ICFA had 17 members. Since then, the association has demonstrated substantial growth, expanding to 45 members — reflecting increasing industry engagement and a strong momentum toward the adoption of cage-free systems in Indonesia.
As the first national gathering of its kind, the meeting served as an important platform for cage-free egg producers to connect, align, and discuss emerging issues shaping the sector.
The meeting also featured a seminar session with Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC), a certification body, and Rainforest Alliance, providing valuable insights into certification processes and traceability systems in other sustainable commodity sectors, offering relevant lessons for the advancement of the cage-free egg industry in Indonesia.
