To help stabilize supply chains and strengthen the resilience of the country’s poultry and meat industries, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr has reactivated the Inter-Agency Livestock Data Analytics Group (LDAG), reinforcing the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) commitment to responsive, data-informed decision-making.
This initiative aims to deliver timely, reliable information, equipping industry stakeholders with insights to navigate pressing market challenges—including price volatility, supply bottlenecks, and import surges.
Undersecretary for Livestock Dante Palabrica has been appointed LDAG chair. The group’s primary role is to streamline data collection, analysis, and reporting of key poultry and livestock data to improve planning, forecasting, and policy formulation. It will work closely with the Philippine Statistics Authority to define data requirements and with commodity focal points across agencies to consolidate information on poultry and livestock production, inventory levels, farmgate prices, cold storage stocks, and production costs.
The group will generate scenario-based supply and demand outlooks, conduct trend analyses, and produce regular reports such as the Livestock and Poultry Situationer—providing the DA leadership with actionable insights into the chicken, egg, pork, and dairy sectors.
“We need up-to-date data on market trends and behavior to ensure that the policies we formulate and the actions we take safeguard and promote the growth of the industry—even as we protect consumers,” Secretary Tiu Laurel said.
“The market is dynamic, hence the need for better and more reliable information for accurate forecasts and timely decisions.”
Moreover, the LDAG will regularly dialogue with industry stakeholders to validate data and ensure that findings remain aligned with real market conditions. By strengthening the group, the DA aims to enhance the animal protein industry’s resilience, bolster food security, and drive long-term industry sustainability.
