Vietnam’s Department of Livestock Production and Animal Health has partnered with VNPT Group to develop a traceability system for livestock facilities and products.
This initiative is a significant advancement, enabling the livestock sector to integrate technology into management practices, enhance production efficiency, and facilitate international integration.
The system allows authorities to monitor the entire supply chain in real time—from breeding, collection, transportation, and processing, to the end consumer. Data is recorded, synchronized, and made transparent, aiding inspections, enabling rapid incident responses, and optimizing resource allocation.
Through traceability codes, consumers can verify product origins, ensuring safe food choices. Meanwhile, producers and businesses can safeguard their brands, control quality, and respond quickly to market demands.
The system also supports the implementation of the Livestock Law and food safety regulations. In cases of incidents or suspected quality issues, traceability allows for the rapid identification of affected product batches and related facilities, thereby minimizing risks and economic losses.
The traceability system serves management purposes and acts as a ‘passport’ for Vietnamese livestock products in international markets. With this system, stringent traceability standards from the EU, the US, Japan, and other regions can now be met, opening up numerous sustainable export opportunities.
Moreover, the system increases transparency in the supply chain and builds greater trust among domestic and international consumers. As markets demand greater accountability from producers, traceability becomes a powerful commitment to product quality and safety.
Five core features of the traceability system:
The traceability system is a comprehensive solution that empowers Vietnam’s livestock industry to modernize, enhance product value, meet global integration requirements, and safeguard public health.
