The Department of Agriculture (DA) from the Philippines imposed a ban on the imports of chicken and poultry products from eight countries due to avian influenza outbreaks.
According to a separate memorandum, the DA ordered a temporary ban on importing from Chinese Taipei, Ecuador, Moldova, Peru, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ireland, and Poland. It was established to ban the entry of domestic and wild birds and their respective products, such as:
In the same way, the Department requested: “The immediate suspension of the processing, evaluation of the application, and issuance of Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) import clearance to the above-stated commodities.” The Department of Agriculture also indicated that all shipments from the mentioned countries will be confiscated.
In the orders, Usec. Domingo Panganiban said there is a “need to prevent the entry of HPAI virus to protect the health of local poultry population.”
“[B]ased on the official report submitted by the Director General of the Central Veterinary Administration of State Veterinary Administration, Prague, Czech Republic to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) on Dec. 1, 2022, that there was an outbreak of H5N1 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HAI) virus in Frahelz, Tábor, Jihocesky affecting birds as confirmed by the Veterinary Diagnostic Directorate (National laboratory),” one of the orders read.
Similarly, the Department of Agriculture cited in the order the official report from Denmark in which, on November 21, 2022, a highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak was reported on Lundby, Slagelse affecting birds as confirmed by the Statens Serum Institut (National laboratory).
