China approved the importation of all poultry products from the USA. , as indicated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on its website, this Monday, February 17, 2020.
In the Ministry’s publication, it is indicated that this decision was taken after the risk assessment , the declaration, which came into effect immediately, eliminated a series of restrictions imposed by the currently-extinguished General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the Ministry of Agriculture in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
China approved imports of poultry meat products in November 2019 as a concession to the US. before finalizing a limited commercial agreement.
China is the second largest poultry producer in the world and has been increasing production to cover the great shortage of meat after the African swine fever epidemic decimated its herd of pigs. However, in recent weeks , Al Jazeera publishes, prices have plummeted due to the measures taken by Beijing to deal with the outbreak of coronavirus that has killed more than 1,700 people. Restrictions on the transfer of livestock production and prolonged vacations in many areas have crippled the supply chain , leaving poultry producers trapped with large stocks of birds and eggs and reducing demand as restaurants and food services remain closed.
