On June 19, 2026, I attended the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) roundtable on poultry and animal feed, entitled ‘Ensuring feed security and sustainable growth of India’s poultry sector’, organized at India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.

Suresh Chitturi, Chairman of CII National Committee on Animal Agriculture, Vice President of All India Poultry Breeders Association and Managing Director of Srinivasa Farms, in his welcome address highlighted that poultry feed contributes nearly 65-70% of poultry production costs, making feed security one of the most critical factors influencing the growth, profitability and sustainability of India’s poultry sector.

With increasing volatility in feed ingredient availability and pricing, climate-related challenges and rising demand for affordable animal protein, it is imperative for stakeholders to work together towards sustainable and innovative solutions.

This roundtable meeting brought together policymakers, industry leaders, feed manufacturers, researchers, nutrition experts and value-chain stakeholders.

Uday Singh Bayas, President of Poultry India, Dr Ravinder Jaiswal, President of ABIS Foods and Proteins Private Limited and Dr Harshakumar Shetty, General Manager-Sales & Technical Support of Venkateshwara Hatcheries Pvt Ltd, shared their views on:

It was stressed that food, feed and fuel should grow together and not compete with each other.

Mr Chitturi in his closing remarks of first session said feed security must be treated as national food security. Affordable eggs and chicken are among the cheapest and most accessible source of high quality of protein for Indian households and ensuring a stable feed supply is essential to sustainable India’s nutritional security.
